I am Oscar of Dorm 3 !
It's been a while since I posted a post. =D But oh well, all is well and fine. Gonna post when I feel like it. =P Well anyway I am going to review a j-dorama I watched recently. *drums roll*
- Name : Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (a.k.a Hana Kimi)
- English Name : For You in Full Blossom
- Genre : Comedy, School Life, Romance, and Slice of Life
- Episodes : 12 and 1 special episode
- Actors : Horikita Maki as Ashiya, Oguri Shun as Sano and Ikuta Toma as Nakatsu and others...(Too much to name lol)
What It's About
About a girl called Ashiya who comes to Japan all the way from California to help Sano, a high jump hero, who quits the sport after an accident involving Ashiya. She disguises herself as a male and enrolled in an all boys school where Sano studies in and helps him to get back into high jumping.
Throughout her stay in the school dorm, she befriends and meets a lot of people that made supported her and encourage her as she faces difficulties.
Personal Thought
Who would have thought that I would watch the japanese adaptation of Hana Kimi after I watched the taiwan version. The taiwan version really give me a bad impression of the show. I mean, come on ! Look at Ella and Maki (look at picture above...the 'girl' at the center). Ashiya IS NOT SUPPOSE TO LOOK EXACTLY LIKE A GUY and MALES DON'T FALL FOR PEOPLE THAT LOOKS LIKE GUYS unless they have homosexual tendecies (which they don't).
Ella looks like a guy. She is flat...I MEAN REAL FLAT !! FLAT FLAT ! LAPANGAN TERBANG KLIA FLAT( How did she do it anyway?) !

I guess I could give her the credit of looking like a guy. Good job Ella for looking like a guy (is that even a compliment ?) !! >_>. But on the other hand...gee...I mean come on, in the Taiwanese version, both the guys look prettier than Ella. Ella tried too hard in my opinion. Exaggerated expressions are annoying, felt the urge to give him (I mean her) a FALCON PUNCH !! on her face. Nevermind her looks, that I can forgive, it's her acting that really puts me off.
Maki as Ashiya is believable given that some of Japan's teenage boys really looks like girls (and sometimes even better... EEEK DON'T KILL ME !). Nakatsu falling for Ashiya is believable too since Ashiya IS A GIRL AND LOOKS LIKE ONE EVEN IN DISGUISE. Nakatsu and Sano falling for Ella's Ashiya ? Now that is downright homosexual-ness but I guess it's alright cause beauty is at the eye of the beholder. Taiwanese version is ok...it's just Ella...and it's so LOOONGGG...GROAAANS
Ella aside, Hana Kimi (japanese version) is pretty humorous and funny. There were instances I 'ROFL' and go 'WHAT THE FRACK !?' and it's really that good. It's not perfect but it's good enough.
Sano...eh what can I say ? So kayu and cool. Personally, I dislike such kind of characters even in real life. He is a high jumper but quits after he met an accident. Not a fan of the actor either but I found him likeable. Even rooted for him when he high jump...Wishing that he will jump pass the pole. Being a star jumper the accident really impacted him. Even though he gives others the cold shoulder, what I like about him is he has a strong and enduring attitude. Willing to take pain and rejection in order to accomplish what he desires (in a good way).
Ashiya is cute. I enjoyed her role in Nobuta and I certainly enjoyed her role in this drama too. Selfless and kind. Leaving California and going to Japan and enrolling in all boy school ? Now that's bawlz. Always caring and helping others, now wouldn't it be nice if we have a friend such as her ? She acted well and it's especially funny when she is adjusting her life in an all boys school when everybody is rushing into the room to borrow shampoo half naked.
I particularly feel for Nakatsu due to the fact that among the trio he is one less loved and faces a lot of dilema. I mean...if you are a male, and you found out you like another male...that is dilema enough. But after one whole night of thinking and accepting yourself as gay, and the next day you find out that guy is actually a girl...man...now that is one EXTREME SEXUAL CONFUSION. I would feel like cutting my wrist too. Nakatsu is also silly, happy-go-lucky and fun to hang out with. Always smiling and not wanting other to see how he really felt. He acted his role nicely, in fact I rooted for him over Sano...even though I already know what the outcome is. Nakatsu you are cool and great !! Don't be sad !! You will find a better girl !! LOL !
Conclusion
Overall, Hana Kimi is a good comedy show. It's light and entertaining. It's silly and common sense is nearly void in the show. Throw away logic and common sense and watch this drama and you would actually enjoy it. I would give it a 7.5 out of 10. If you like to watch drama, I would recommend Hana Kimi as it is definitely worth watching and not a waste of time at all watching it.
Once again...
and once again...
Yes we got it Nakatsu.
